Inclinometer Monitoring
Inclinometer Monitoring measures lateral ground and structural movement to detect deformation in slopes, retaining walls, and foundations. It helps identify potential instability and ensures safe construction and long-term performance. Choosing the right system depends on your project’s risk profile and data frequency requirements.
Category
Conventional Inclinometer
Robotic Inclinometer
Mechanism
A portable probe with internal MEMS sensors connected to a cable reel and a handheld readout (often via Bluetooth to a mobile device).
A motorized winch or “robot” unit sits at the top of the borehole. It automatically lowers and raises a standard inclinometer probe through the casing.
Reading Method
Manual. Requires a technician on-site to traverse the full depth of the borehole twice (A and B directions)
Fully Automated. The system is programmed to take readings at set times (e.g., every 4 hours). Data is transmitted via 4G/5G or LoRaWAN to a cloud platform
Labor Cost
High (Requires on-site technician)
Low (Self-operating after install)
